By analysing both film and television seriality, the book explores the links between seriality in the broad sense of the term and audiovisual narratives.

The chapters cover the history of cinema and television, through their intermedial evolution, from The Perils of Pauline (1914) to Hannibal (NBC, 2013-2015). They address the narrative, aesthetic, cultural, industrial and economic implications at work in these multiple forms of audiovisual seriality.

Ariane Hudelet research currently focuses on the aesthetic evolutions of American TV series, more particularly one-hour dramas, since 1999.
